80's digital FM cassette to DAB and more
Discussion
Stupidly I bought a ste Kenwood FM/CD about 12 years ago and removed the classic Alpine pull out system (which I still have), now I would like to find/buy the original Clarion Jag fitted and upgrade it to DAB and I phone connectivity. Because its a digital system I have been told that it can't be upgraded to DAB and that the only way to connect my iPhone is through one of those dodgy cassettes...
Has anyone here know of someone who can actually convert these 80's digital radio cassettes in to modern day connectivity and DAB???

If you want iPhone and DAB, what are you actually going to use the OEM HU for - just controlling the volume?
You could probably open up the Clarion and replace the connection from the tape player to the amp with a connection to a DAB controller but you'd still only be controlling the volume; you would still need to mount a DAB/Phone controller somewhere and use that for all the functionality.
Bluetooth would be easier but you'd still be better off bypassing the Clarion completely and installing a separate system.

The Citroen DS episode of Salvage Hunters Classic Cars had a company that modified old radios to modern tech.
Yeah I saw that BUT that was an old analogue push button radio, not a digital radio, was told that digital radios can not be converted, was hoping someone on here had some other info..V12 Migaloo said:
This is the unit I ultimately would like to buy and have converted, I would like the period stereo, that's the only reason I want to fit one.. so basically from the responses to my original question, is there a company out there that does these mods, I take it that the answer is no??

I modify older Jag radios to add integrated bluetooth, I work on S-Type, X-Type, XJ X350 and X308 models but haven't looked at models that old (yet).I'm sure it's possible, however the hard work is reverse engineering the control panel electronics so that you can integrate with the original buttons to make the upgrade seamless, i.e. no additional controls, and designing the upgrade board so that it fits in the available space.
If you don't have any luck elsewhere I'd be happy to have a look at your radio and see how feasible it is. Have a search for JagDroid-Cassette if you want to see my X308 solution.
