wiring driving lamps
Discussion
Afternoon I am having difficulty wiring in a pair of driving lamps to a toyota rav 4 2002 model I have a wiring kit but when wired as per instructions the lamps stay on even when the key is removed I have been told this is because the main beam is wired with a switchable earth could any kind soul help me out please ? many thanks.
Something in the back of my head is telling me that linking off a main beam won't work
There's very likely a relay with the kit and that relay will often hold-in after switching to dip or switching off
Sorry, it doesn't answer your question, need to have a think, perhaps find a diagram
I do know that the very same problem occurs when wiring them to several Japanese cars
Once upon a time when all else failed, the main beam warning light cables were used to trigger the relay for the driving lights

I would have thought the way to wire it is:
- tap into +ve of the high beam
- take that to one side of a relay
- wire the lights on the other side of the relay direct to the battery, or other circuit with enough spare amps.
You will need to wire the ground side of the relay in too. If the relay is wired to the high beam, it will switch on/off almost instantly when you switch on/off the high beam.
