Hi.

Could anyone tell me if sticking a new head unit in my 1 series would make the sound louder, or would I new amp be better money spent? Alternatively is it worth spending anything on the stereo?
The current stock unit is the business cd player, the sound is terrible, very quiet and poor all round.

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Changing the radio will not give you much more volume I’m afraid. The benefits of changing the radio are more based around adding features like CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth or Navigation.

If you want to add more volume, you need more power. To gain more power, you would be better adding an Amplifier to the system, either via the BMW radio or an after market one.

BMWs are known to have poor audio as standard and there are plenty of options to upgrade the factory system with better speakers and a DSP Amplifier. Some of these are plug and play too, so you could potentially fit the new system yourself, if you are handy on the tools. I would still recommend using a professional if you can though.

Audison has a BMW configurator that allows you to select your vehicle and it will recommend certain plug and play set ups.

I hope this helps.
