Mitsubishi W142 (MZ312720) Replace with Pioneer but No Power
Discussion
Hi everyone,
Just joined the forum and in need of some help. I recently bought a Mitsubishi Shogun Pinin 2003 and i want to replace the standard radio/cd player with my Pioneer SPH-10BT which uses ISO connectors.
I bought a adapter on Ebay which said it was for a Shogun pinin which i assumed would work however i have no power going to the pioneer radio. Not sure if this is the correct adapter ? as i have 2 cables coming from the car and this adapter is only for 1 of the connectors.
Hopefully someone can help me please, i have added pictures of the adapter and the cables i have coming from the car.

Ok, I've had a look....
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1fhH-nlwVqyBPBWiqu...
seems to have the diagrams.
Working from pages 3-360 and 3-361, the plug with lots of wires in is D-04. From left to right in the picture where you're holding it in front of the fan switch:
White-red front right speaker +ve
Black-red front right speaker -ve
White-blue front left speaker +ve
Black-blue front left speaker -ve
Green-white illumination (lights on/dimmer)
Red-blue permanent live feed
Blue ignition switched live feed
Yellow-blue rear left speaker +ve
Grey-blue rear left speaker -ve
Yellow-red rear right speaker +ve
Grey-red rear right speaker -ve
The other plug appears to be the one on page 3-362, D-144, (pins 21,22,29,30 are the only connections and match your wire colours) and is connected to the centre display, so chances are you'll lose whatever function that had with an aftermarket stereo, but I'd guess it shouldn't affect anything else.
Going back to the adaptor...
The 4 pairs of speaker wires should all track into the same half on the black connector, looks like the top half in the picture shown. The wiring colours for these on the adaptor should be:
Right front speaker(+): Gray.
Right front speaker(-): Gray w/black stripe.
Left front speaker(+): White.
Left front speaker(-): White w/black stripe.
Right rear speaker(+): Purple.
Right rear speaker(-): Purple w/black stripe.
Left rear speaker(+): Green.
Left rear speaker(-): Green w/black stripe.
So you can check that those match up.
You should then have 4 wires going into the other half of the black plug.
Yellow = permanent live (should match up with the red/blue wire on the car's plug)
Red = ignition live (should match with the blue wire)
Note: sometimes these need to be swapped around, even when the stereo claims to be iso - if the stereo works with the ignition on, but then loses all the setting when you turn if off, they need to be swapped... there are often plugs along the 2 adaptor wires to enable you to do this easily.
Orange = illumination/dimmer (green/white on plug)
Black = ground. Now there is no separate earth mentioned on the diagrams (apart from maybe 3-362, D-37... did the stereo have a single wire attached to the back of it?Probably black or brown, with a spade connector on it? It is easy to dislodge these without realising and have them fall down unnoticed inside the space when pulling the original stereo out). In the meantime, I'm guessing that the black wire with a ring connector on it in the picture of the adaptor comes out of the bottom half of the black plug? That's there for you to make an earth for the new stereo... and will be why just plugging in the plug didn't work as without an earth, no current will flow and therefore no music You need to bolt that ring down to a clean, metal, part of the car's frame. It may well need extending it there's nowhere obvious nearby, and a longer wire may make getting the whole thing in and out a bit easier anyway. If you do find a loose black or brown wire with a spade connector in the dash, you might be able to trace that to an earthing point to confirm it's an earth wire, and connect to that instead. The earth is just as important as the power in, so make sure any connections you make extending the wire are good (preferably soldered and heat-shrinked) and that the final connection is to bare metal (car body, NOT the cage for the stereo!) and nice and tight.
Good luck!

Thank you so much for your help with this im so grateful, been struggling all day with this.
Ok looking at the adapter i got the wiring is all wrong so i will need to start again and i was hoping you might be able to help me with this please ?
Here is a picture of the Adapter again but i have removed all the wires to start again : https://ibb.co/YTP3mpJ
Im assuming the brownish is plug is for the speakers ?
What i am stuck with is the black plug, Im not sure what goes where into the 14 pin plug from the car. i have labled the cables for the black plug below.
Black = Ground / Chasis
Blue = El antenna / goes to ?
Yellow = Memory 12v / goes to ?
Orange = Illumination / goes to green and white
Red = Power 12v / Goes to ?
Iv added close up pictures of the 14 pin connector from the car if this helps
Bottom Cables : https://ibb.co/4Wd0PPq
Top Cables : https://ibb.co/3f3jzk6
Thank you so much again : )

Yes, they've even labelled them for you! (RR = rear right and so on)

Black = Ground / Chasis Nowhere. You'll have to make your own connection to some bare metal of the car, as I said above
Blue = El antenna / goes to ? Again, nowhere - this time because you don't have an electric aerial
Yellow = Memory 12v / goes to ? Red/black wire... sorry, I wrote red/blue in my previous post, got my "b"s mixed up for a moment...
Orange = Illumination / goes to green and white Yes
Red = Power 12v / Goes to ? Blue wire
Again, note the yellow and red wires may need to be swapped over for the head unit to keep its memory.

You also have a black/yellow wire in that plug I couldn't see before; I think that is for a variable illumination function (so the stereo gets darker/brighter with all the other instruments when you move a control on the dash... your new stereo probably won't have this ability) as it's attached to a part marked "rheostat"; but it has a connection to the indicator lamp as well, which is odd... I'd ignore it for now and just check nothing strange happens when you get the rest of it wired.Ok looking at the adapter i got the wiring is all wrong so i will need to start again and i was hoping you might be able to help me with this please ?

You're welcome
Enjoy!
Hi bro ive seen you helped him but i also needed some help with mineEnjoy!
In my case is a pioneer mvh-s320bt where stock radio dtopped working.
If i send you pictures of my car harness could you help me figure out what wires go where on raduo harness (not using adaptor only car and pioneer plugs
If I don't, I expect someone else will
Post up some pics, and best add what your car is.
If it's not unusual, there's likely to be a Connects2 or similar adaptor already available, which takes the guess work out.
And pics of stickers showing wiring pins on the original stereo would help, too.
The wiring to your new stereo will (ok, should) be standard ISO:

and/or

(Ignore the sub/aux stuff)

Hi defblade
In this link ia all the wires of the aftermarket radio and the OEM one (both harness)

There isnt much about the space star wiring stickers/ diagrams (found only 2005 + mitsubishi models mostly
But here are 2 links that might be helpful to you to help me out

It looks like you have the right adapter for your Pioneer SPH-10BT, but it seems that it is only meant for one of the cables coming from your car. You will likely need to purchase a second adapter or splice the two cables together in order to properly connect your new radio. It may also be worth checking the wiring diagram for your Mitsubishi Shogun Pinin to see if there are any additional components needed for the installation. I would suggest consulting a professional or an installation manual to avoid any damage to your car's electrical system.

Your first, major problem here if you just want to plug and play is that the adaptor harness you've got there has a female plug on it... and so does your car, which means you can't just plug the one into the other. You'll either need another adaptor, or you'll be starting to cut and join wires. (If you do this, DISCONNECT THE BATTERY FIRST!!!!)
Next up, the smaller plug appears to connect the stereo to the multidisplay unit, so you'll likely lose some functionality maybe from satnav, or time, temp, mpg displays etc with a new stereo.
And the stereo doesn't have a wired earth on the main plug (it may just ground through its mounting normally, or possibly through the smaller plug, but I was unable to trace it, so I wouldn't try), which means you'll need to to find an earthing point to bolt the earth wire down to somewhere in the dash (you may be able to see a bolt with a bunch of wires under it already in there somewhere).
However, the rest of the colours on the bigger plug match up with the wiring diagrams.
Looking at the pinouts on the plug linked to in technomag I'll list the pin number, what it does, then the OE wire colour/s, then which wire on the new harness they need to plug into/join to make it work!
I'll start top left and go up and down as that groups the speaker wires sensibly. It can be confusing looking at pin outs as which way around they are depends on if you're looking from the front or back, but I'm sure you'll work it out!
1) Rear Right +ve; Yellow/red; Purple
7) Rear Right -ve; Gray/Red; Purple/blak
2) Rear Left +ve; Yellow/blue; Green
8) Rear Left -ve; Gray/blue; Green/black
3) Empty
9) Empty
10) Ignition switched live +12v; Blue; Red
11) Battery live +12v; Red/yellow; Yellow - remember what I said about disconnecting the battery before playing with this (and #10, really)
4) Dimmer; Green/white; Orange or Orange/white (plain orange if the stereo just dims when the lights come on, orange/white if it dims up and down with the other controls. Not all stereos can do either of these, so that wire may not be relevant anyway)
12) Empty
5) Front Left +ve; White/blue; White
13) Front Left -ve; Black/blue; White/black
6) Front Right +ve; White/red; Gray
14) Front Right -ve; Black/red; Gray/black

The fact of loosing mpg or other data in center display is fine for me to loose control because what it shows since i removed oem is what i used to have displayed.
My main goal is to plug and play on a way all radio features are usable (like USB and bluetooth it has built in)
When I connect it and make it work I'll give update
Once again thank you so much for taking the time to help out really appreciate your help😊❤
First off, I think I may have looked at your adaptor cable the wrong way around in my head. Is the female bit where it goes into the stereo? That is, is it the wire that came with the new stereo, not something you've bought extra for fitting? I can't check this morning as it won't let me back on to your pictures. In which case, it will end in male ISO connectors towards the car, which is fine.
You could just cut the ISO connectors, and the 16 pin connector in the dash off, and join the wires. But if you want to make it easy to put the OE radio back in, for example when you sell your car, it could be worth getting an ISO-to-ISO adaptor. You then cut the wires on that in half so you have a male end and a female end. Cut the connector off the car, leaving at least an inch or so on the wires coming out of it. Then wire the female ISO into the car. You will be able to plug your new HU into that with its own wiring. Then, wire the OE plug onto the male half of the ISO-to-ISO. This means you can unplug the new stereo, and be able to restore the original plug and stereo by plugging the new adaptor you just created into female ISO attached to the car.
Wires are best joined (IMO) by soldering for this sort of job. Time was, I would have used the 2-screw connector blocks, which makes changing things back a little easier without adding extra connectors as above, but they always seem to work loose over time and you end up chasing bad connections. (If you do use them, make sure each wire is stripped long enough that it is held under both screws). The sleeved crimped connections are pretty good, too, again plenty of overlap within the connector is best. All joints need a bit of mechanical support beyond the joint (usually a cm or so of insulating tape), they will get pushed and pulled around a lot as you push the HU into the dash.
Don't forget to provide an earth, and disconnect the battery!
