I was hoping some pistonheads might have first hand experience of retrofitting their car with head up display. My circumstance is that I have an import Forester STI with KMh only speedo. Unfortunately I can't get a fascia for the dial so having to look at alternatives. It is also needed in Northern Ireland for MOT to read in both mph & km unlike rest of UK ☹

Looking any recommendations please as there doesn't seem much on a Google search for real world reviews.

Any aftermarket HUD will always suffer from double-ghosting, as it won't have the correct tapered interlayer between the two layers of glass in the windscreen.

Having said that, these types of unbranded ones do a decent job in terms of brightness (important during daytime). Many now appear to be dual GPS and OBD2 compatible to read the speed.

I've not used this specific one, but had a play with a similar one a few years back, and it was fine, although as mentioned, the ghosting means it'll never be as professional looking as an OEM solution.

Still much better than a non-functioning speedo!

There seems to be a few on Amazon,

This one looks good, with not bad reviews, GPS or connected to OBD2 port

Edit, above post was done as I was searching..

I tried a couple of different Amazon ones and to be honest, I found them more annoying than helpful. They are bright enough but the ghosting effect grates after a while and finding a suitable place on the dash can be difficult, depending on the car.

Are you sure that you can't get a dial facia? Lockwood list lots of different ones for the Forester on their website. Or could you buy some 2nd hand clocks from a UK car?
