This is the sub box I build for my R8
It is not secured to the back or floor but it sits about 3-4cm behind the seats & is weighty enough not to move about
Would this concern you - in a rear end collision could it do me any damage or is that limited by the incredibly short distance to the seats
It is not easy to secure it to anything as behind it is not a very solid material that goes into the engine bay from what I can make out & underneath it is a lightweight & not very well secured removable fibreglass shelf
Only way to really secure it would be to mount some wood under the shelf, remove the bass drivers, and screw down through the box into the wood underneith the shelf. Quite a hassle.

That's to protect the seat from getting marks from the infant seat in the front

Oh I've got zero objection to doing it I just didn't think about it.
The hassle would be very minor compared with how long the rest of the build took me

I know not much to move but for safety sake and you have a child in the other seat I think it’s worth the extra effort to secure that sub enclosure wink

Back in the day, I used to buy heavy duty self adhesive velcro from John Lewis and stick the appropriate side to the sub box. Never moved.

The carpet doesn't match and now you have 20kgs of subwoofer and mdf behind your head, looks like a crap idea allround I'd say. In the event of a collision I wouldn't want to rely on a bit of timber and a couple of screws you are considering bodging it up with.

That needs to be secured/strapped down, could you not secure it to the shelf it's sitting on using some straps or a bracket that holds it down?

Thanks!
To answer a few points:
I have recarpeted it recently & it matches now
Sadly the car's carpet does not stick to velcro
This is a very common location for aftermarket installers to attach a sub box in the R8, they must have a way of doing it safely...
Under the shelf there is a large sheet of metal that is part of the chassis so there will be places where I can run proper bolts through without having to drill the car
It's not ported the enclosure is correct for the subs it sounds good

You could design and fashion a pair of leather buckle/belt like straps to give a more retro look of holding a piece of luggage

Thanks for the comments all. I have now secured it by bolting a steel fixing plate to the chassis with M8 fixings, then fixing another M8 to each fixing pointing up that then bolts through the sub enclosure, so it is attached via some pretty solid fixings to the chassis, there isn't a scrap of movement at the bottom it's rock solid now. I did have to drill the bench ion 2 places but it's won't be noticeable when I remove the sub & sell the car due to the carpet

Looks a pretty sturdy job although only some calculations would let you know how well it would hold up should the worst happen which to be fair is probably unlikely.

Honestly if I'm going to get hit so hard from behind that it breaks those steel M8 bolts away from the chassis holes that I screwed them into, it won't be the subwoofer that I'll need to worry about!

Sorry for the misunderstanding, I thought you just made it.

I assume it is powered by a mono amp in parallel? But if it’s a popular fit , I guess it’s all sorted.
The only reason I poke my nose in, I fitted many kits into many magazine cars, including theses fine Haymarket people who owned PH.

Tidy job smile

Otherwise, the worry would always have been in the back of your head... even if the box wasn't wink

Hiya no worries at all, yes it’s powered as you say, I worked it out at the time with an online calculator and checked on here too. The subs are not ported but they have the correct size enclosure. I also used 2 pack filler to fill all the old holes in. Just need somewhere to go now! Feel free to share one of your more outrageous installations if you like always keen to see that stuff smile
