So my faultless 2016 Honda Civic has finally decided to put a foot wrong.

When you put it in reverse it beeps once (as normal) then will start randomly beeping as your reverse , both long and short beeps, even though nothing is behind you. This is annoying to say the least.

Nothing online at all about this happening on this model of civic.

Suggestions mention dirt or water possibly trapped behind sensor? Or a loose connection or a faulty sensor.

I have tried cleaning them with warm water and a fine brush to remove debris , also wd40 as that is recommended too. This seems to fix it but invariably it returns the next time you use the car ?!

Possible causes :

Car was hose washed and waxed 2 days befor it started ( first clean in 6 months !)

Car went to garage for mot/service and rear pads replacement the day before this started ?

Can’t seem to find a on/off switch for them either , there is a strand little opaque green button to the left of the steering wheel with a “p” on it , they lights up bright green when pressed. Doesn’t seem to do anything and goes out shortly afterwards. It’s not in the handbook either ...

I’d start by checking the connections, not always easy due to access but it’s where I’d start.
As you say it could be a defective sensor but I’d rule the easy stuff out first.

Since spraying wd40 on them on Saturday night again, they have been fine... would this lean more towards dirt or water at or behind the sensor ?

Wd40 on the surface won’t really do much except clean them. Sometimes moisture can get into the electrical connector behind the bumper.
See how it goes.

I’d start looking on eBay for Oem replacements now to use in trial and error testing in the future. Sure you’d get em for pence
