Just bought a 2002 SLK. It has a Tow Away Alarm and this is my first encounter with such a device. Does it stand alone or is it connected to the immobiliser? The reason I ask is that I took the car out in the rain and the light on the tow away alarm switch came on and now won't go off. If it's not related to the immobiliser I'd like to dispense with it but don't want to cause myself problems.

Any ideas?

I've exhausted my vocabulary trying to find the answer on the internet with variations of 'Is the tow away alarm linked to the immobiliser.'

Thanks, Scrump. I've seen that. It concentrates on trying to turn the switch light off. There are several threads like that. I'd rather do away with the alarm altogether if it's just grief. On the plus side, my car's lights aren't flashing and the alarm isn't sounding.

There must be a way of turning it off as this has to be done when taking the car on a ferry to stop it going off during the voyage.

You'd think so. If the switch light is on, the car drives and the lights aren't flashing and the siren is not on you might think I could learn to live with it. I'd just like it explained.

Thanks for that, Cold.

If only I had some time to sit and read it all. Oh, I do.
