Spare wheel subwoofers
Discussion
Was wondering if anyone has real world experience of these in their cars and if they actually add noticeable bass or is just a gimmick?
Tempted to buy one to add a bit more bass in my estate but regularly have the seats down so want a sub that's out of the way, noticed Bose make one that was an optional extra fitted to a variety of different manufacturers cars (Audi, Mazda, Nissan etc...) and they are quite cheap secondhand.
I'm not expecting the car to shake with 100w 6" speakers enclosed in the sub but would like a bit more thump.
Cheers.

I had one of these custom made many years ago in the spare wheel of my Porsche 928 GTS. As this is technically a hatchback the extra bass worked very well in the car. I'd definitely recommend going down that route in a hatchback, not so much in a saloon where there is a metal divide between rear seat and boot.
When I had a Jaguar XKR convertible that idea didn't work because of the roof mechanism so I just got a decent underseat one in a small box that just sat in footwell behind the passengers seat. Worked well enough to enhance the music.

I have an Inphase compact active sub in the spare wheel of my 928, same set up as Jody.

Not so loud you lose control of your bowels, but meaty enough, especially as the stock system lacks bass.
