Nextbase 512 no battery power?
Discussion
I installed a NB512 in the wifes car with the NB wire harness. All seems good but the lead fell out one day and the camera shut down in about 30 seconds. My wife does a 15 min commute and we use it for longer runs on the weekend, its only been in the car 5 months. The battery symbol says its charging and if you disconnect the cable it only shows 2 bars out of the 3. I have taken it of the car and charged it over night to have 3 bars and it still shuts down. We have contacted NB several times and they keep fobbing us off, the last one is we have the wrong mem card installed, would that really cause it to shut down?
Anyone else had similar issues?

When I was selling these the batteries were always a bit crap. They're designed to last a few minutes to take photos of an accident if you have one said the bumf we got through for their display. I have the same 512G that has next to no battery life. I just splashed out on a wiring kit (Lies, it came for free on an offer) and wired it in to my cars. Worked pretty faultlessly ever since. They're very light devices so I can't imagine any internal battery would be much use I'm afraid.
I've got a 512GW, don't know if that's what you've got or if you've got the older 512G?
The batteries are not intended for normal use, just to support the Auto Power Off and Emergency Record functions - and are only designed to last for about 6 minutes (for the 512GW) and 30 minutes for the 512GW.
On my 512GW there's an 'auto power off' setting to set how long the unit stays on after power is cut? The default is 10 seconds, but can be changed to 1 and 2 minutes.
There's also another setting to choose whether the unit powers off when the power supply is disconnected or stays on until the internal battery is depleted.
