Should any Double DIN Head Unit work in my Skoda?
Discussion
I've recently bought my first car, it's a Skoda Octavia 2008 hatchback,1.9 TDI (105 Hp). The dashboard could use some modernisation, beyond a Bluetooth, USB, FM transmitter in the lighter socket.
What I'm trying to find out is: Should I be able to put this product into my car?
https://amazon.co.uk/dp/B07BKRGZS1
I think it's just a matter of disconnecting the battery, taking out the T20/T25 screws and plugging in the ISO cables, but I've never done this before and £229.99 on an incompatible gadget is a lot to misplace.
Any help would be much appreciated!

Yes, it will fit. You will need a dash finisher, to hide the gaps around the edge, and you might need extra cables to make, for instance, your steering wheel controls operable.
If you don't get a more detailed answer here, find a VAG forum, and ask there; inevitably, somebody will have done this (those Pumpkin units are gaining popularity) and will be able to give you detailed instructions.

Yes - should be possible.
I've done a couple in the past - how easy and what you lose depends on the model radio fitted to the car.
As it's a 2008 it could be a couple of possible choices - could you post the model number of the fitted radio and / or a pic of the dashboard.
If it's one of the early radios then it's a simple swap - will need some wires to adapt the wiring and to plug into CANBUS - but it's simple and there's several YOUTUBE videos that help.
If, however, it's one of the later ones - which controls lots of the car's options - then it's £££££ to upgrade and you may lose some of the cars functions

Steering wheel controls? I had to look up what that might refer to. I don't have any buttons on it beyond the horn, in so far as I can tell. That's an idea for a new wheel in the future though, if I decide not to restore it instead. said:

Thank you for that, I have tried vwaudiforum.co.uk; although no-one who's done it has commented yet, it has given me more helpful information to go on.defblade said:
Should be possible, but there may be canbus issues, depending, and you may lose things like pictures for the parking sensors... have a look on Briskoda for more info, you're bound to find something (many things!) similar on there.
I don't have any parking sensors or cameras. I'm considering front and back plate cameras though, since the head unit in question has two video inputs, but that might involve the fuse box and other elements I haven't been exposed to, so I'll shelf that for now.mawallace said:

I was told by another forum that this is my radio: Skoda Octavia Superb Symphony Radio Stereo CD MP3 PlayerI've done a couple in the past - how easy and what you lose depends on the model radio fitted to the car.

But yeah, here's some pictures:
Do you reckon I should just be able to snap a PUMPKIN in there?
This is the back of the head unit I want to install in the car:

Well it's all very interesting and I'm willing to put a lot into it. I've always wanted to get straight into vehicular electronics as soon as I have a vehicle. If, however, it's one of the later ones - which controls lots of the car's options - then it's £££££ to upgrade and you may lose some of the cars functions
