If you want a cheap one that does all the basic functions you need, try the Apeman C420 that you can get on Amazon.
Been using it for a couple of months, just plug and play and forget. Nice long power lead.
Feels alot better built than the really cheap chinese clones. Buttons are nice and firm and the menu is easy to navigate.
Only £25.

Have just fitted a Spy Tec A119S DashCam (with GPS) which I purchased from amazon.co.uk, it cost £29.49 which I though was very reasonable.
It's one of the wedge type cameras so pretty discreet. Instructions are poor but it's very easy to set up and picks up the time and date from the GPS receiver.
Edited to add that when I put a new SD card in, it asked me to format it which I did, within seconds it had updated the time and date and started to record, so pretty idiot proof. Very impressed with it.

Had a nextbase 3 years ago and swore never to have another after battery failed only 3mths in.
however, i wanted a dual camera within a single unit by rear view mirror & nextbase were the only decent one and their reliability issues had been sorted (apparently)
1 year on and its still functioning perfectly and gives great pictures and is easy to use and install discreetly.

Hi all
I've just joined Pistonheads specifically for this question of which dashcam to buy.
I'll be interested in peoples views as I intend getting one as a present from the wife for xmas but am at a loss as to which one.
I recently bought a Viofo camera, similar to the one posted above but its a different model and has front and rear cameras. I've just joined Pistonheads specifically for this question of which dashcam to buy.

Easy to fit and good quality. WiFi allows you to connect and view the footage
