had a garmin a while maps updated etc

my issue is its set to fastest route but seems desperate to send you down some minor side road /dirt track , tested on routes i know and its nots great ...say a main A road from a to b , it will find some country lane to send us down half way there then join back to the main road

anything in the settings im doing wrong ?

I have a similar issue with the Becker Map Pilot. If a route has a single track lane at NSL and an A-road at 40mph limit, it will choose the single track lane, despite not being able to drive it at more than 20mph because it lines with high hedges, has 90deg bends, passing places etc.

My old Garmin used to do that. I assumed it was trying to bypass some kind of black spot.

This is interesting. My Garmin had been getting worse and worse , using rediculous b road alternatives instead of fast a roads very near by. Perhaps it is indeed due to more and more a roads being limited down to 50 and 40.
