Blaupunkt Bremen head unit updated
Discussion
The Blaupunkt Bremen head unit has been updated to modern tech, with Bluetooth, DAB radio, and a USB port and SD card slot hidden in the cassette tape door. Looks decent for anyone with an 80s/90s Porsche or other German car. 449 euros. https://www.autoblog.com/2019/07/21/classic-1980s-...

Blaupunkt no longer exists. The name is licensed to a Chinese company.
So what ? Chinese electronics is first rate these days and will be far better than the original company could have ever made . They would be under so much financial and regulatory pressureHas anyone bought one of these units? Any feedback on the quality or user interface?
I'm thinking of one for the 106 as I think it'll fit in quite well with the dash.
Only thing I'm a bit concerned about is how to select which songs / albums on the USB / memory stick. I've seen some really awkward controls, with sub-menu after sub-menu, which makes using them awful.
I'll have a look for an online manual, or a video, but would be interested to hear from someone who has one, and uses it.

Harry Metcalfe has one fitted in his Esprit, he does show it fitted and talks about it a little bit here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pIn7gCN6uC4I'm thinking of one for the 106 as I think it'll fit in quite well with the dash.

I have owned a Frankfurt RCM 82 DAB for two years, selected based on looks alone.
I have replaced rear speakers as I was hearing crackling when using balance and fader to direct sound to the 'suspect speaker'
This week I replaced the dash top speakers in my mk2 golf as I noticed same crackling, now it seems it is the stereo at fault.
Additionally, the buttons around the numerical keypad stick down rendering all other buttons useless until you free the stuck button. My car is clean inside so the buttons are not smothered in filth.
I had read negative comments before purchasing, but the look in a classic car for me was ideal.
Someone mentioned navigating the SD cards tunes, indeed, this is slow and I prefer to just bluetooth stream my music from phone to radio.
DAB reception is poor compared to radio I removed, I have tried three different antennas, front wing mount original, roof bee sting and a window stick on antenna. My next move was an amplified antenna.
Having typed this out, I have convinced myself to put the old radio back in and attempt to get a resolution from Blaupunkt.
My advice for anyone, check reviews before buying, don't be an auld romantic like me and ignore the reviews and splurge money on this brand.

I've got the Bremen and really like it. Granted, the DAB reception can be a bit patchy but generally its been great and a big improvement on the other period 80's head units I've got.
The hands free bluetooth phone works great and sound quality is more than good enough in a noisy old car that only gets used occasionally. Can you not stream digital radio off your mobile if the DAB reception is not good?
For a classic 80's car the retro looks outweigh the sight compromises it has to make and I'd rather this than a completely out of place modern looking unit on something that is not used every day.
A graphic equaliser was the business in the day and I've been looking for a way to connect the period BEA80 EQ but for now its just there for looks.

I put a Continental Dab/CD/Bluetooth/USB radio in my old Merc a few years ago. Whilst it's not got the pedigree of Blaupunkt it has behaved impeccably with great DAB reception from a cheap windscreen aerial, Bluetooth works well and it looks sort of retro.
