66 Plate Golf Navigation Issues

Hi everyone, i'm at my wits end and I'm hoping someone can help me.

I bought a 66 plate Golf (guessing its a Mk7) on Friday. Checked everything over on it and looked nice, aside from the nav system. It was asking for a media for maps. I asked the dealer for this and they said that the Discover Navigation Pro doesnt come with an SD card because it has an in-built hard drive and you only use an SD card for updating stuff but if you connect to wifi it can do it for you. A quick online check kinda confirmed this.

I got home and bought the correct 3rd party SD card as instructed by VW (32gb) and went on to the website and started the Discover Startcare process....chose my car, chose my infotainment system and started it off.

I went back to check the settings on the car and it seems that the system software is up to date because there are no updates available when i do the online update. However, I still NAVIGATION DATABASE N/A.

It's like the map packs have vanished, they were never on there for me. No matter what I do i cannot get the maps on there.

Ive downloaded the map packs only and put them on the card, in the slot and the system says the media has the navigation database but i am unable to get it onto the hard drive....

Can I remote to the system if its connected to my home network? Is there some secret code to copy them to the hard drive? VW want £90 for a card but I dont want to pay it if it doesnt put the maps on...its like theyve been deleted.

I've even gone into service mode to try and force it but get a myriad of errors from device not supported to no update found etc.

For the love of god can someone please help me because i've spent 3 days trying to sort this now.

They said that's how they got it. It's an ex-motability car so the owners never used the NAV.

That’s not your problem.

If it was advertised with Nav then it should work. You’ve only just bought it. Take it back before your cocking about breaks something and they can wash their hands of any responsibility.

Does it definitely have nav pro? As this is not a particularly common option as aside from the big screen it didn’t offer huge amounts in the way of useful features so people didn’t really go for it. If it’s the smaller screen then it’s just normal discover nav so it will need the correct VW SD card

Here's the pdf for updating the maps, its very fussy and you have to follow the instructions exactly - Class 10 SD card, use 7-Zip to unzip the files, nothing else on the card etc...

Also need a full battery as you have to leave the ignition turned on while it updates

Mine is a later 2018 7.5 and uses only the SD Card, again with that system you can't use any old SD card. It has to be one supplied by VW with the maps as they have a hidden partition on them it looks for.

p.s. Make sure you're positive which system you have too.

I did all that and it still didn’t work. It even said the source has the navigation data and nothing would happen and it would error when I try to update.

I’ve ordered the card from VW.
