I recently installed an Android head unit.

https://www.navi4all.com/en/product/8-android-8-1-...

Broadly a quad core unit with 2GB RAM, 16GB ROM and Android 8.1. Running the latest version of Google Maps.

I would describe the performance of Google Maps as slow up until the point that it gets going, at which point it is fine and can comfortably run maps in parallel with the radio.

Looking at the specs. Is there an obvious reason? Would the unit be considered particularly low end? Generally speaking I would expect a new unit to be able to run current apps well, even if not for as long as more advanced models.

I am considering buying another unit for a different car. If I don’t have to buy a higher spec model I won’t. As far as I can tell, 2GB/16GB/Quad is around £200 and 4GB/32GB/Octa is around £325. If I am honest I’m not sure which of those contribute most to performance (guessing not the mass storage for a start).

The Mrs has an xtrons in her 330. TBH it does just about work, but it's only the uncertainty about how long we'll keep this car that stops me chucking it in the bin and sucking up the loss/cost.

Those specs are a bit vague to say the least.... 4x st core Vs 8x st core will still be st, just more st...

Can you look through the menus and see what's actually in there? I'm guessing the specs are vague either because they're st, or because they just buy what they can, when they can.
