I have installed reversing sensors in past, where you take the power from the rear light-fairly easy.
Need to order a reversing camera for the new car, and I'm a bit confused as to how you get power for them.
I still see you connect to the reversing light powercable at back of the car, but how do you power the monitor itself?

I see there are some kits sold where you have to plug it in the 12v socket of your car the monitor, which kinda sucks...

I'm looking now at either of these 2 kits:
There are no real instructions form them, but still show that you must connect to some power supply, just wondering if it's meant that you need to connect to the car battery directly or you can just connect to the reversing light cable like for installing the simple reversing sensors?

Perhaps maybe someone has ordered exactly these in past? How were they?
I see those are like the 2 most popular dirt cheap versions on the fleabay.

I wouldn’t bother, I think they’re a pointless gimmick.
If you can reverse you won’t need one, and any car I’ve driven and with one that I’ve tried to use it just makes it harder than not having one!

Deepends on what car you have fella. My old Mazda bongo benefitted greatly in tight spaces as you cannot see the back, or the tow ball.

We parked the Wifes Sportage in the train station car park every day for the best part of the year and the rear camera was useful in making sure we never went over the line at the rear.

But that was a big car, compared to her TTS.

I'm in the process of retrofitting one to my Cupra.
On mine, the yellow plug goes into that back of the headunit/screen and it gets power from the reverse light wire.
No idea about the screen though

I have one from that fine store, Aliexpress. Couldn't be bothered to run wires all over the place so I got a radio one - camera at the back nicely hidden in a licence plate holder, transmitter in the boot. Both hooked up to the reversing light switch. little flip up screen on the dash - my old Jeep GC has a nice flat area for it.
Go to Aliexpress and search for "wireless reversing camera" and you'll get something suitable for about £30 - some of them have radar as well as a camera.

The licence plate holder contains the camera, and fits perfectly into the number plate recess on my Jeep, it's black like my Jeep, and you wouldn't even notice anything odd unless you were really looking for it. It can be tricky to park as I have a monster of a tow bar that sticks out a good bit. the camera is aimed so it sees the very end of the tow bar and about 2 feet behind it.
It's just tricky to park because the first generation of Grand Cherokees are fairly huge, and have blind spots all over the place, and rubbish rear screen visibility I'm not being precious about the jeep, I just don't want to end up with an insurance claim because I embedded my tow bar in somebody's front grille..

I've installed a few durite screen and camera kits on tipper trucks. You power the camera from the reverse light. Then run the av wire and another wire liked to the reverse light to the screen. The screen is powered by an ignition live and the wire to the reverse light is used as a signal to turn the screen on and off. There are connections for both on the screen. I'd imagine e most of them work this way.
