Long story short, I have a jap import with an aftermarket cobra 8510 immobiliser in it. It’s causing (I think) intermittent problems with my ignition

It feels like it’s a relay sticking, but does it contain a relay to switch the circuitry

Ordinarily I’d get up into the dash and take it apart but I simply don’t have the time for investigation, plus I don’t want to disable the car too early on in the game

Yes they do. Two circuits from memory. Take the metal case off and you can the get to the molex plug and do some testing

This may help...................

  • GND connections (2 wires to be connected in different places - I guess these go to exposed bodywork like other ground connections)
  • +15 Ignition Live Wire (2 wires to be connected in different places)
  • +30 Permanent Positive
  • 1st immobilisation (2 wires)
  • 2nd immobilisation (2 wires)
The immobilisation relays are rated for 20A for 3secs, 10A continuous according to the specs
