My insurer has told me i need to install a Cat 6 tracker. Any recommendations? Bearing in mind that i'm only doing this because my insurance company have told me to.

I know there a few other threads on here on this subject, but i havent managed to locate one that helps.

cheers

Apologies for the thread revival, but did you get anywhere with this?

I just thought I’d bump this thread as I am looking at replacing my car and my insurance co are requiring a CAT6 tracker. There seems to be very few real reviews on tracker products and subscriptions on here or other forums. Can anyone recommend any companies?

I have liked what I have seen of the Tracker ‘Locate’ tracker, but I am conscious that I might be getting suckered in as they’ve put a modicum of effort into their website :/

I've installed TrackKING on my Goldwing and very impressed.

Not sure if it's Cat 6.

You can find it on your phone and they ring you up if the battery is disconnected or the vehicle looks like it's going to the Ports or somewhere suspicious.

They rang me when it was being worked on and twice more at Portsmouth Docks when we were going to Spain and coming back.

On my previous vehicles I used Tracker Retrieve as it had its own battery source.

Tracker is the only company that the Police vehicles can locate with their aerials.
Just be warned that any tracker that relies on GPS to locate it, can easily be defeated by a £5 jammer from ebay. Tracker uses other technology as well as GPS which is a bit harder to defeat.

What ever you choose, make sure its installed well and the unit is hidden well. At the moment, thieves are nicking the vehicles, driving a short distance, finding the tracker and removing it.

Thanks all, ideally I would like any tracker to be well hidden. Indeed I would like it not visible at all, although I’m also apprehensive about trim getting pulled apart to fit the hardware.

The car is a Mk3 Focus RS. I intend to get a stage 1 Mountune upgrade and this seems to flag a requirement for a tracker. I could get a standard Mk3 RS insured without too much bother/cost and without the need for a tracking device.

I choose to have them on my bikes regardless of whether or not insurers ask for them to be fitted.

Car wise, I guess it depends on what they require to cover you.
