Does anyone have any recommendations to an alternative to Waze?

I have been using Waze for around a year without issue but since changing phones I have stated to have an issue which is really annoying.

Until recently I had been using my phone (Samsung S8) connected to my car (Ford Mondeo) via Bluetooth to stream my music and had set the audio output on the Waze app to my phone handset so it didn’t keep cutting out my music to give me directions but instead used the phone speaker, this was perfect.

I recently started a new job and have inherited an iPhone 7 Plus but when I try to do the same with this phone it constantly reverts back to “Bluetooth” as the audio output, even when I change it in the app sometimes it’s the next time I open the app sometimes its midway through a journey, this is a real pain if I am listening to DAB on my car I don’t hear anything from Waze as my car stereo isn’t receiving Bluetooth audio when I am listening to DAB.

Has anyone had a similar issue? I have tried deleting the app and re installing and deleting my phone from my car and pairing them again but nothing seems to help.

If you're listening to DAB, turn bluetooth off on your phone?

I had a similar issue with Waze and my GTD Bluetooth, no way could I get Waze Bluetooth and phone audio Bluetooth both to route through the car audio. As soon as Waza connected it dumped phone audio back to the phone speaker. (iPhone 7 and 8). Got out of the habit of using it because of that so not tested it yet with my XE.

It works fine with my XR, both phone and Waze audio route through bluetooth to car audio. Not tried splitting it so Waze comes through the phone though as per the OP.

I don't think Waze is the problem, it is the way bluetooth works and any other satnav app on your phone would be the same.

But then it wouldn’t work for calls.

I just don’t understand why the Waze app has the option to specify where the audio is routed to if it is going to keep changing the setting back.

Ahhhh I seee… I have no idea then. I was under the impression on iPhones you route audio to bluetooth but thats a blanket for all audio you can't specify different apps for different routes. May be wrong though.

You might be right just seems strange why it’s an option in the app if it doesn’t work..

I use Google Maps which has never let me down. I think this is more of an iOS vs Android issue though. I've never had a sat nav app that lets me differentiate audio on iPhone.

As far as I know, Google maps doesn't tell you about speed traps, police, potholes or any other realtime hazards?

I've just got back from a 2500 mile road trip round the Alps, used Waze exclusively for navigation, but used Google maps to plan routes as its much clearer and easier to find roads and POIs.

Had the same issue with audio routing on an iPhone XS, would seem to forget the last setting quite regular.

Back to android again.

Does Google Maps have a speed camera / speed limit warning?

I get frustrated that speed limits and camera locations are present in Google maps when I'm in the US but not UK.

Equally annoying is that there is no audible alert on Waze unless I have a route set.

Ideally I'd like audible alert via phone speaker without having a route set. Or to only have audible alerts via Bluetooth audio but not the turn by turn directions. Seems I can't have either.

No, but if you install the TomTom Speed Camera Database it has a small popover which tells you your speed with limits, and a speed camera warning. It's quite smart and starts up automatically with Google Maps.

You can use TomTom speed camera app for that.

Waze has many more users though, so I'm not sure if their data is more reliable or not.

Why not bin DAB and just listen to the Radio on Tunein via Waze? Best of both worlds then.

Good point - but if you have DAB you'll want to use it and TuneIn of course uses data.

Depends on where you live I suppose, personally being in deepest darkest Somerset, DAB is a pipe dream that works every 250meters or so. Somehow TuneIn retains enough data coverage to remain a constant.
