Hi folks, can anyone advise what is required to fit an aftermarket headunit to my mk5 golf. Its double din atm but I'm looking a cheap and easy fix to get bluetooth or front aux. I've watched a few YouTube videos but they involve cutting wires etc. Is there nothing that will just plug and play?

I thought it was just the fascia and iso loom?

Thanks

Try this;

https://incartec.co.uk/product/Volkswagen-fitting-...

If you have steering wheel controls or this;

https://incartec.co.uk/product/Volkswagen-car-ster...

If you don’t. If you don’t think these are correct then browse the website or call them, they deal direct with the public and can post out to you.

You've got a couple of options:

  1. Replace the whole headunit with an aftermarket one, either single or double DIN, using a kit (Connects2 CTKVW01 for single DIN; CTKVW04 for double DIN - both kits include a steering wheel interface). This will cost around £150-£200 excluding fitting depending on the HU that you choose.
  2. Get an aux interface for your OE headunit. Connects2 do one of these too ( CTVVGX004) but it won't work if you have a in-dash 6 disc CD headunit. Cost is £30 excluding fitting.

Jeepers I was thinking I could stick in something cheap. Would this not work then?

I have a couple of the 150-200 quid Android units in my 2 R32s.

One caused a battery drain issue so swopped them over, not a problem in the other car??

One Nav SD card corrupted and now I have no Nav until I can 'find' a new iGo map card.

Now one has failed completely and wont power-up.

Err, apart from that, they are quite good....

That isn’t the plug and play solution you’re looking for. There is no 12v when the ignition is in at the VW radio, it works on CANBUS. The links posted have a CANBUS interface to give you ACC/ ignition output, illumination output and steering control if required. The stuff you posted above will work fine but you’ll need to run in an ignition live from somewhere like the fuse box etc.
