I've installed a Connects2 bluetooth adapter in my A3 that connects to the Aux port and has a live and earth cable. Im getting static in the background, a speaker pop on startup and you can sometimes hear an increasing pitch as the car speed up. Is this all down to a bad earth connection?

The live runs to the fuse box with a piggyback fuse connecter. The earth is attached to a bolt in the fusebox area but its not clean metal, I think its painted. I was thinking of earthing it direct to the headunit casing if this would work? Any ICE gurus on here with any advice? Thanks.

If you can, get the earth from the actual head unit. “Earth loops” were a real pain when I was doing installation s , many for Haymarket magazines who own PH ! See my profile for the “brand”

Thanks. Would attaching the earth wire to the headunit casing work?

The headunit should already be pretty well grounded but can't hurt to run another.

The proper way to solve it is to use a ground loop isolator, costs a couple of pounds.

Aux ports can sometimes do strange things if the 3.5mm jack isn't inserted fully or is a cheapy one. Is it inserted all the way?

Sorry my explanation may not have been great. It is a Bluetooth module that connects via the OEM aux connection on the Headunit.

easiest way to check for bad ground is with avo/multimeter. whack it on DC Volts, use a known good ground and check the earth points your using.
if it's not 0v then you've got a volt different and thus a bad earth.
i've had issues with my installs with 0.2v difference so doesnt take much.
