Because I am a long-term customer(?) TomTom have sent me an unbeatable - nay, unmissable offer:-

https://promos.tomtom.com/en_gb/obsolete-products/...

I have struggled, honestly, I have struggled, but I have been able to resist this wonderful offer.

I can't think why?

Can you?

Had the same email this morning, guessing they realise the market for people to buy stand alone sat navs is falling very fast

If you like Tom toms it might be good, but considering the software you get bundled in with an iPhone, it seems extortionate.

With the apple and android car play, I can’t see Tom Tom lasting.

In Dec 2017 I brought a tom tom 5200 brand new for £150 on Ebay, as stated market is falling fast as you can use Waze etc on your fone.

Where standalone devices still have an edge is if you want to be able to pre-plan and load routes with multiple waypoints.

...and which is becoming more difficult to do on the newer TomTom devices.

With some major limitations:

- Max 10 waypoints
- Cannot mark a waypoint as a destination (useful for showing on the GPS distance left to a specific location e.g. fuel station)
- Cannot cut and paste waypoints to enable creation of new routes based on existing ones

Indeed, which is why my trusty 2008 GO 520 is still my device of choice. I also happen to really like the TomTom turn-by-turn 3D display, which helps you to anticipate the radius of an upcoming bend far better than any other UI I have tried.
