Hi folks ,,

A friend of mine has recently bought a v,v nice Ferrari 488 and I noticed a very nice feature, well its got a lot of nice features but this particular one looked really useful.
It has a trickle charging point at the rear of the car which connects via a magnetic contact. Similar to the mob phone air chargers.

I wondered if it would be possible to have something similar fitted to my 'lowly' Ftype. Any car which gets left for lengthy periods tends to drain its battery and its a real nuisance having to connect a charger to the battery terminals .

I've looked for anything similar on the internet but with no luck !

Anyone know of a product like this ? or what the likely problems of fitting a charging point would be ? The battery is located in the boot which has to help.

Thanks, Dave

That’s got to be retrofit, surely?

Most trickle chargers come with a lead you can connect to the battery so as to have a quick plug - in connection. I'd just attach that with the lead's plug in a convenient location.

It is the magnetic connection that is v appealing. Nice and neat and if you drive away forgetting the charger is connected no harm done.

Prehaps this is unique to Ferrari .

standard stuff I think and it has a very flash Ferrari smart charger to go with it.

Good beans! Ferrari realising that their beautiful baubles aren’t necessarily an everyday proposition!

If you can't buy one you can make one
Induction technology is nothing new, look at how a transformer works
People have been known to wire up coils very close to mains sub-stations and connect the power to their homes (done for stealing when caught)
Search for induction chargers

YES ! Something just like that . Thanks .
I spent ages looking last night .

That looks like it will do the job , wired straight to battery via a 5 amp fuse ?

Who needs a Ferrari 😁

Nice job, I'm not meaning to sound bhy, you may benefit from turning the mount around by 180 degrees to help prevent water from running down the cable and getting past the boot

Only connected when the car is in the garage so always dry . It’s easier to connect with cable upwards but point taken .

In that case the job's a super duper one
Do you fancy starting a topic over at the PH TVR Forum showing people what you have done, I think many people over there could benefit from this method of charging as they often leave their cars parked up on trickle chargers

I don't want to be taking any credit for your work

Shucks ! thanks guys, the tow eye cover was a perfect position , And thankyou Squishy for finding the magnetic connector .

I have had Tvrs for many years and always kept them on charge via the lighter socket which remains live when the ignition is off. Its a bind having to thread the wire through the door though so one of these would be a great addition.
I'll pass the info on to the Tvr ranks.

Surely that connector would benefit from having a clip-on cap to protect it from all the crap and water that hits that area of the car?

Looking at the 1/4" spade connectors on the back for comparison and the tiny pimples on the front that make the connection, I think 15A might be a bit optimistic! More like 5A max.. But fine for trickle charging..

They are also expensive for what they are.. But if you are a PH powerfully built Ferrari owner that's not an issue wink

And £11 for the little cover that's a piss take as well..
