Merc C Class 2012 - 2nd hand radio - Anti-Theft Activated

Hope you guys can help.

Bought a 2nd hand radio unit (radio, CD, Nav, phone, etc.) for Merc C-Class, fitted myself, works for a few seconds then all goes off with notice saying "Anti-Theft System Activated. Contact your Mercedes workshop." My dealer is taking the mickey saying they only may be able to recode, but will charge £140 to do so, this after charging me £140 to diagnose "coins in the CD player have shorted the old one out". They won't even guarantee that they can recode it for me. £800 for a new unit.

Anyone know how to get a code or whatever is needed? And then how to put it in to get it all going again? My Google Fu is lacking on this one.

You could always return it to the seller you bought it from & tell them it wasn't removed from the donor vehicle correctly?
