Hello, I am looking to get my hands on a monoblock amp; to drive some subwoofers with. Many years ago I drove two 15" Sony Xplod suds with a 1600Watt Sony monoblock amp, they are obviously discontinued now the model I did have, could anyone point me in a direction of a good place to look at/browse and buy a new thank you?

I'd have a look at an Audison SR1 Dk, its in a different league to any sony monoblock (paired with the correct sub/subs obviously and with suitable wiring)

I’ve seen Sony described as the Deawoo of the car audio world.

I had a alpine 1000w mono that was great.

I can recommend the JL Audio 1000/1 I've had mine for a few years now and it puts out a true 4Ω 1000 watts rms at 12v, lots of the other manufacturers put a peak wattage which is just lies, the RMS is usually a fraction of that.

This guy reviews lots of cheap amps on a dyno and see's how many watts they actually put out https://www.youtube.com/BigDWiz

Thank you for your replies, I will look into what you've updated me with and hopefully be able to find a monoblock with enough rating to deliver a good amount of power. Tim

I am about to order a Boss Audio R2400D 2400W Riot Class D Monoblock amplifier. It looks to be good enough for what I want after researching and reading up on it?

Thanks again guys.

Does it have to be a mono amp? You could always bridge a normal stereo class D amp (which pretty much all car amps are)

Yes upon seeing it, it does look crap, after reading experiences that people have had with it; I am going to try it for a short period of time. In that time I will continue to search for a good standard monoblock amp, I am hoping to get my hands on a Sony Xplod 1600W mono amp like I had fourteen years ago? Thank you again.

Those wattage ratings are highly misleading
It isn't a coincidence that JL & Audison & Focal gear has a lower wattage rating for more money than Boss, Sony, Pioneer etc
I had a Focal amp in my Boxster that was rated at 57 Watts RMS per channel, you wouldn't have wanted it any louder!
I have a Cerwin Vega Class D Mono amp that I took out of my Maserati that I was going ot list on eBay let me know if you want it it is a Stealth Bomber B1 I believe

I am fully aware that the advertised power rating is likely to be nowhere near reality, I'm a time served electrical tradesman and have a degree in electrical & electronic engineering, I have also done research into power usage and I know it doesn't take huge figures of power to do real work with fuelling subwoofers for example, all in all; there's no dramas thank you. I will carry on researching till I find something I'm happy to look at using.

Well at 16, as in the Isle of Man we can legally learn to drive at 16, I got a 206, then when passed and saved had two 15" Xplod Sony woofers with a very impressive 1600W Sony Xplod monoblock amp to drive them, that car still lives on in legend here where I live haha!! I want a similar set up in my new van smile
