Just picked up a new car that has Android Auto and I want to start using Waze as I've seen it recommended a lot.

I'll need a new data plan for this, just wondering what sort of data usage it requires? Driving around 20 miles a day...

Load your route/map while on wifi before setting off and it should use minimal data

I use it a decent amount, and it used 145Mb in the last 30 days, so trivial in the scheme of things. As said, set the route on wifi before getting into the car is a good habit to get into.

Round 100-150MB a month here so nothing, can be in use up to several hours a day

Thanks for the info. That doesn't sound like much at all. So 250mb should be enough for it I think.

What is the best way of getting a plan for this? I've bought a cheap android phone just to keep in the car as I really don't use smartphones at all.

My old Nokia is just a PAYG so no data use. I'm back in the UK after being abroad for a long time so I was going to get this one at £3.99 from ID mobile from here https://www.tigermobiles.com/no-credit-check-sim-o... But don't want to pay for data I won't use and I don't need it for anything else. Just needs to be prepaid as I doubt I will pass a credit check so if anyone has other suggestions for keeping costs down and not paying for something I don't really need let me know.

check 3, think they did a SIM that lasted 12 months and gave you 12 gig of data for £30 iirc.

Thanks didn't think of one that lasted a year. Will have a search.

Here's a bunch:

Be slightly wary of using a phone SIM as you might be classified as tethering & some companies don't allow that. Whether or not it'll be picked up is a bit of a gamble. The 12 moth data ones should be fine.

Three also do a PAYG SIM which is 1p/MB, 2p/text and 3p/minute. If you don't plan to use too much, that sounds good value to me.
