I'm attempting to update the head unit on a 2006 VW golf GTI.

Mine seems to be the basic unit, no Bluetooth etc.

I've purchased a RCD330 and canbus module, however my local car audio place struggled to make it work. Not sure where to go from here!

I've also got a Mk6 golf with a head unit in it which does what I need; would it be easier to hook the new one up into that and then fit the unit from the Mk6 into the Mk5?

I read somewhere it would be less problematic fitting units from a similar period of production as the car itself.

rcd330 is plug and play on the mk6, I just did mine, the only real issue is the crappy antenna adaptor, its only got 1 actual lead, the other is blank, whereas the car has 2 leads! Why are they having such issues with a new canbus on the MK5?

I have a 2006 r32, I was told upgrading to the later vw units can cause battery drain depending on what canbus connection you have.

Not sure if this impacts the gti aswell.

In the end I got one of these and have no issues.

In VAG kit since the early noughties the units are allegedly coded to the individual vehicle, so if you get a VW unit from another vehicle it won't work unless a dealer gets involved.
