Apple CarPlay Dashcam
Discussion
My daily driver has integrated CarPlay and, i have to say, it works brilliantly. Totally seamless.
After several displays of epic fkwittery (Aberdeen drivers FFS) I've been contemplating a dashcam and it crossed my mind to get one of the dashcam apps.
Google did not help so I though PH might - do any of the dashcam apps work with a phone connected to CarPlay?
Cheers

i don't understand why anyone would want to use their phone as a dashcam.
Memory, battery life, inconvenience (wanna leave your phone in its windscreen holder while you pop in the shop?!) are all things that make it a no no, imo.
Dedicated dashcams are so cheap these days and can be installed (half decently) in 30 mins. Install & forget, until you need it.

I know what you mean but my phone case is my wallet so it goes everywhere with me. I have heaps of free space on my iphone, it's always plugged in when in the car (using carplay) so battery life isnt an issue.Memory, battery life, inconvenience (wanna leave your phone in its windscreen holder while you pop in the shop?!) are all things that make it a no no, imo.

One gadget instead of two and all that...
Interestingly, the camera does work when the phone is connected to carplay - in so far as i can open the camera app and take a picture. I cant control the camera through the carplay of course but that's ok. I basically just want an app which will use the camera to always record while the phone is connected to carplay playing music or using the satnav.

As above, i think it's a NO as regards Apple CarPlay, however i have a possible solution, albeit in some aspects perfect, but in others perhaps not.
If you download a track laptimer such as Harry's, it can video direct from an iPhone & even overlay your speed etc. Another plus is you can upload to various Cloud options & if you have an uneventful journey the video is easy to delete.
The only factor i'm not sure but could throw a spanner in the works, is the M6 Toll probably isn't in Harry's track database, so not sure if their's a workaround, but i know the App captures all the video & data when in the paddock etc. but only starts apply Lap data once it knows you're on the circuit.
