Gutted I can't replace my Jag's st nav system as it also controls the rest of the car so I've just bought an Android tablet which I'm going to stick on the dash like the silly BMW/ Audi floating ones, but could alternatively could find a way to situate it so it can fold down over the OEM unit. Gone for the magnetic ball things (https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/302599832999) thinking if I get a pair, it will be stable enough hold the tablet from the bottom edge, if I situate the magnets on one side to have it sticking up from the dash, and have it rotated downwards covering the original nav unit.

Any other installation ideas?

Bit of black string between air vents

Folder over style case

Drape over the string

Very simple, very effective

I do this when I switch between hire cars a lot

Great idea but my air vents retract when not in use so I can't use those air vent clip holders. I was thinking the folding cases would be an option to attach to the dash and flip down. Chances are my solution will be similarly low tech. The holders that slot in between trim panels (Brodit) like the old car kits look more professional and secure but cost about 30 quid before you've even bought the bit that fits your specific phone model, and of course we change phones every 2 years these days. Just gone for a CD slot holder to see if I can get on with the low viewing position in the meantime.
