I’d like to have the Garmin on top of the plastic dashboard, rather than have it on windscreen.

There are a number of options in the market.... any recommendations please?

The car will be driven enthusiastically, so it’ll have to be secured.

Thanks.

I’d look at buying a brodit vent mount then buying the universal satnav adaptor.

Little chance of it moving

Brodit mounts are reasonably priced and work well. There are 2 or 3 different mounts for most vehicles. I chose the left hand side vent mount for my Touareg. I bought a spare Garmin mount from eBay, and screwed that to Brodit mount. Very solid.

Before buying the Brodit mount, I used a Garmin dash top mount ( https://www.halfords.com/technology/sat-nav/sat-na... ). Although it looks a bit gash, it actually worked well.

Have endured endless variations of Garmin sat-nav ending up in lap, mouth, eyes and other soft fleshy parts

The Mofun sat nav mat is the One True Answer. Work with Garmins, too. Will not ride up with wear. :

I have an Arkon mount which replicates the Garmin ball coupling. The Arkon is bolted to the dash of my Yaris so that it is visible through the steering wheel, where the instruments would be on a more conventional design. I have two USB ports mounted where a switch blank used to be with power taken from the feed to the electrically adjustable door mirrors (which I don’t have) switch. A left angle USB to left angle mini-USB coiled cable completes the setup.

Another vote for Brodit here. Well made and secure.
