anyone had this issue and fixed it , i see plenty of threads online moaning about it

basicly the charger cuts the signal to an other perfect dab signal , ive tried another charger and routing the wires around the car , some threads mention a better quality charger (if so what ?) or sheilded cables or ferrite rings

any ideas please

I had, and to a lesser extent still have, the same issue with phone chargers in my car.
Some of the cheap usb chargers kill the DAB signal so I bought some more expensive branded ones and found that they still affect the DAB signal but not as much.
I cannot say why some chargers are better than others, the only trend I have noticed is the larger branded ones are best (but not perfect) whilst the smaller cheaper ones are worse.

It's due to poor EMI performance.

Either upgrade to a better charger or fit a ferrite core to the cable.

Identical problem here, I've fitted the Aukey front & rear camera that Techmoan recommended.

The original dual one which came with the camera cut all signal, I'd read a better quality one would help, so got a dual Griffin one, same issue, so I tried a dual Belkin one, their latest design, and it's better but not perfect, whereas the DAB without the camera was.......

Various cheaper ones I have all have the same issue.

For me Belkin's latest design sticks out way too much, let alone with the USB cable in it too, the search continues.

Let us know if you resolve, cheers.

Similar issue from a thinkware dashcam and DAB signal in a M135i (cable runs near the shark fin I think?)

Watching with interest

Strange thing is in my daily Golf I've got a Mini 0805 and it's absolutely fine, though I'm assuming this is because it isn't a separate USB but an all integrated one on the end of the mini USB lead?

Shark fin on the BMW's is not a aerial, it's purely there for decorative purposes smile Your aerial on the M135i is positioned on the rear windscreen, as part of your heater matrix, as below.

It's quite likely that is the DAB aerial and the FM aerial is in the sharkfin.

I bought one of these. No efi from it, and I have dab.

INRIGOROUS Micro Usb Car Camera Hard Wire Kit DC 12V to 5V Power Inverter Converter Regulator Kit for Car GPS Tablet Android Phone PDA DVR Camcorder Recorder

I've used cheap droppers (12v to 5v) before that knock out FM too.

Thanks for that, so that's obviously hard wiring it direct to the fuse box, was the fuse box inside the car? Mine's in the front, not sure how I'd get it into the car without going through the fire wall.

What car is it? I'd be surprised if the Auxiliary fuse box isn't near the glove box or steering wheel.

Funny thing is even the new Continental radio I put in has the same effect when plugging into its USB on the front!

I can reassure you it’s not in the sharkfin, you can see exactly where it is from my picture above. The sharkfin was designed as a GSM antenna, for those who spec the phone cradle option.

Ah thanks for that, it's in very, very close proximity to the camera then - may have to sort that out I think

I've tried a few and found that this one is the best at avoid DAB interference, and it is very low profile so there's no problem with the 12v socket cover

right made a little bit of progress

made this basic charger from these plans- parts cost a couple of quid, needs a heat sink too
https://www.modmypi.com/blog/how-to-use-voltage-re...

its gone from no signal with the charger on , to working say 60-70% of the time , good but not good enough , ive noticed if i bring the usb cable near to the aerial the signal drops again

ive ordered a high quality ( all say that !) usb cable that claims to be shielded and thicker copper core , hoping that might do it ...if anyone knows of a nice shielded usb id like to hear about it , any point in wrapping some tin foil around what i have where its hidden under the dash etc?

if your current set up gets some reception then the above might just fix it for you
