Tapping into can bus on my Audi?

I'm doing a retrofit of "Audi side Assist", otherwise known as blind spot warning, on my SQ5.
I've bought a loom and the necessary parts but have hit a snag.
The instructions say I should connect up the loom to a canbus gateway plug but the pin positions specified are already occupied by canbus wires, so I cant insert the supplied loom contacts.
Can I cut off the loom terminals and just splice into the existing canbus wires downstream of the connector so effectively connecting to the gateway?
Sorry if this is a daft question but I'm a bit out of my depth with canbus etc...

Yes you can connect to the CanBus downstream from the plug

Assuming it's the correct bus!

There will be lots of different CAN buses in the car, so if you're splicing in to one (which is fine) make sure it's the right one! You shouldn't do any permanent damage if it's not, but could cause some very random issues.
