Toyota Avensis - alarm goes on randomly
Discussion
My mates got a 2011 Toyota Avensis and recently he said the alarm has been going on randomly so he had changed the batteries to the remote and he also found that all his warning lights had come on (the car is serviced very regularly) so he took it to his garage and they had said its a software issue and reloaded the s/w as per him
now again the he is complaining that the alarm goes on randomly for no reason, any ideas as to why it might be happening

most modern cars have voltage drop detection as part of the alarm so it could be that his battery is going. If it hasn't already been changed it would be 7 years old.
Flies etc. setting off the internal sensor - this can be switched off when exiting if he wanted to test the hypothesis.
Last resort, if he locks the car with the mechanical key then the alarm won't be set.
Tbh s/w setting off his alarm sounds like a line - I am on my 3rd Avensis, been active on the Toyota Owners Club forum for 10 years & I can't remember that ever being an issue. The warning lights coming on almost certainly will not have been related to the alarm (if it is a diesel probably DPF/EGR or possibly EPB related).
