I am having issues with my Tom Tom Go Live .
I have had it for about 5 years , the live traffic function has long since timed out , as £50 pa for renewal is expensive .so when traffic is an issue I resort to Waze , but then I have to use the car charger to keep the battery topped up on my phone

The issue is , losing contact with GPS satellites, this can be for up to half an hour , and is not related to being in a built up area , or in a tunnel .
I have just carried out an update of maps and firmware , and hopefully this should do the trick .

In the event the TT us still unreliable , I have been looking at possible replacements . I do like the way TT works so am leaning towards that brand .
BUT I have not closed my mind to others .

TT live used to be stand alone , not needing a smart phone link , to keep traffic updates coming in , and they were very accurate .
But the newer versions of sat navs appear to require a Bluetooth link to the smart phone to get traffic updates .

So my questions , will a smart phone link to the car Bluetooth , and to the sat nav at the same time . How resource and battery hungry is the link .and how reliable are traffic updates .

Or simply , as I have unlimited data on my smart phone , do I just carry on and use Waze
Finally , anyone used successfully Waze in France , navigating down to post code level
Cheers

TomTom have become rather poor on products and software. Updates bricked two of my units and TT helpline was the usual "Christ, I can't be fecked to give advice" attitude from their Irish call centre. I found calling TT Netherlands more helpful and most of them spoke decent English. TTs attitude to product life cycle stinks too. My only product left is a TT Go 40 and I can't see myself buying another one.

I would prefer a separate nav so I'm seriously thinking of a Huawei Y6 mobile phone as a standalone nav/music, but I'm waiting for the price to drop from £99 to sale price of £60. I use google maps and find it brilliant for maps, directions and sharing pins.

Considering you like TT and obviously have a smartphone, why not try the TT Go App? It’s available for both Android and IPhone.

It’s an app you can buy by the month so give it a try and see what you think and the most you can lose is a fiver.

I have a TomTom GO 520 and found the bluetooth unreliable/annoying so connect it to my iphone via WiFi hotspot, while the phone is connected to the car via bluetooth. The live traffic works just fine and there's no subscription needed.

I think the GO 5200 comes with its own SIM so no need to connect to a phone.
