Hi,

I was wondering if theres anyone tech savvy enough to help me?

When I bought my car it was advertised online as having Bluebooth and when I went to look at it I was also told in person it had bluetooth, which for me is pretty essential to have but a week later when I tried to set it up it turns out it didn't actually have bluetooth (yeah, I should've tested to see before buying but it was an official Vauxhall dealership so I trusted them..).

Anyways they said they would send off for one of their aftermarket parrot ones but i've had trouble with similar things in past cars, so i've been looking around and only just found out about Android Auto which looks very handy to have but my main concern is if it would fit into the car.

I popped into Halfords today and after a few minutes of fact checking he said it would but with a lot of other bits being needed (pushing it towards £700 total with fitting) but he never actually checked the car to make sure like it says they would on their site and when I even mentioned Android Auto he didn't even know what I was on about so that doesn't give me much confidence.

With my car being 2014 it only has the base standard unlike the 2016+ models which actually comes with Android Auto now (optional extra of course...), there isn't much difference in appearance between my model and the newer apart from the trip computer screen

(Tourer 2014 - Not mine but exactly the same)

Newer models

My main concern is the trip screen as if you look in the 2014 model it's basically just 1 bit, which makes it looks like it's all 1 thing (no idea if it is, i'm not savvy enough to know anything when it comes to cars other than to drive lol) would it be possible to have such a thing as Android Auto with the trip screen? Like would it have to be taken out and then have a new fascia plate put in to cover up the big mess (if there is even such a fascia)? or Could I just have Android Auto put in and just not have the trip screen to work?

Any help would be highly appreciated. I know it seems like a really stupid thing to ask without looking at it up close but just any sort of insight would be a big help. I may even pop into Halfords again this week and get someone to look at it properly to be 100% certain. But just some insight on stuff you might have done to your own car or seen to others is a great help.

Forget Halfords, you would need a decent fitter if you can't do it yourself and I wouldn't expect much change from £800 to £1000 fitted depending on headunit choice.

The fascia and interface kit alone costs £170+

The end result would look something like this.

All "bluetooth' means, at its most basic level, is the ability to answer and make calls.

Bluetooth streaming allows you to stream audio from your phone and control it via the car.

Android auto is a standalone operating system running on the head unit.

Sounds like the dealer has cocked up but offering to fit the basic option in the form of a parrot kit. Without spending loads you might have to just be happy with that.

What would you call a decent fitter if Halfords isn't? As for the cost, it was between 700 and 750 which is fine, beats selling off the car and getting a newer model which has it in already.

Also thanks for the video, I couldn't find no videos when I tried looking but that's pretty much what I was looking for althought the 1 I was looking at was the Kenwood MX7017DABS model, pretty similar just looks more stylish imo.

Yeah I get all bluetooth means is to make and receive calls and stream your music from your phone but having Android Auto is much more in terms of offering because you can also send messages and it offers Google Maps so no more having to bring my Sat Nav with me on journeys. The dealership I bought the car from is supposedly getting me a Parrot kit, however it's been almost 3 months and i'm still waiting for it. The only response I get is "It hasn't come yet".

Anyways, the cost isn't what I was worried about, I just wasn't sure what the guy in Halfords told me was correct because I didn't find no images or videos to confirm it but the previous reply showed one which did confirm so that's great!

I appreciated the help guys, it's just a matter of when to get it!

I got told to "forget Halfords" and get a proper installer to fit it...

I got a quote for £450 for the unit, £80 for wiring harness, £50 for the facia and £280 fitting from a local audio shop for an android auto unit in my Cayenne.

Well, I didn't fancy dropping that sort of money on it so I went to Halfords anyway who admittedly at first weren't very convincing, but I got put into an experienced fitter at a different Halfords branch (they aren't all created equal) who basically said it's a straightforward install, I'd need the facia obviously, but not the wiring harness and it would cost £50 to install not £280

The Kenwood DMX7017DABS was £330 on offer so got it all done for just over £400

No problem. Sorry I can't help with a recommendation for a fitter as I fit my own. Would probably be best to ask for a recommendation in the local forum for your area.

You might of got lucky with the fitter. I am slightly confused as to the wiring harness not being required, do you have steering wheel controls, if so do they work?

Yep luckily no steering controls, however, the local audio place were aware of that and still wanted to charge me the earth for the install.

If you don't mind spending several hundred quid to get an android auto unit installed it's simply a matter of finding some local car audio outfit and chucking cash at them really.
