MR2 radio plays cd but no display or response to buttons
Discussion
I've tried posting this on an MR2 owner's forum but it's not very active so I'm throwing this out to you guys.
I had my hit-and-run damage repaired and got the car back on Wednesday - I immediately noticed that the stereo wasn't working - no response to buttons, aerial doesn't go up, but strangely when you popped a cd in, it played, the aerial went up, but you couldn't change tracks, see what was playing, or change the volume! Only the eject button responds, and as soon as you eject the cd, the aerial goes down as though you've powered it off (usually it would change to radio).
I let the garage know and they had someone look at it, but said they didn't think it was related to the repair (they hadn't baked the whole car when spraying the door) - they tried wiggling the cables at the back of the unit and disconnecting / reconnecting the battery. Nothing helped.
I did find a thread on another site where someone had the exact same problem, but their solution was to put a modern double-din unit in, which I can't really justify at the moment (car has bled me dry lately) - and I kind of like the look of the stock unit.
Don't suppose anyone has any ideas, or an 10 year old MR2 car stereo in their loft somewhere?
