Hi Pistonhead massive,

Road Angel Pure...

Last year as soon as the new Road Angel Pure was announced i was straight on the phone ( Last November ) And said i will have that!
Goes through all the rigmarole only to be told "It wont be available Until December" Anyway i say, Dont bother, i will stick with my Gem,

Anyway, I check my credit card and they have had the payment and i get a Purchase order number, O well, never mind i will just wait on it arriving, its only a month...

So i call RA at the end of December only to be told they had cancelled my order as requested, OK... Right, When can you get me one for?

We can put you on "Rush" and you will have it by the end of February and pay up...The guy is very nice and says he will deal with my order personally ! Great!!

Called today and trying and trying to get through i eventually get a nice chap who says " I dont know who told you that you would get one this month but there is no chance of that, 3 to 4 weeks at least"

At this i point out i can get one, Brand new, Next day delivery from E Bay..... Reply...Nothing we can do...I point out i have been with RA since the beginning and am not a happy bunny... Reply...Nothing we can do...

So on the other phone i call Icehouseclear out / Ebay and order one, AND ITS GOING TO BR HERE TOMORROW MORNING!!!

If i ran my business like Road Angel do i would be bankrupt in a week !!!

As for trying to get them on the phone..Thats fun.

Must Do Better Road Angel.

I think this might even need a scented candle.

Not trying to be argumentative (unusual for PH) but what benefit do you see with this over for example a Tom-Tom with speed camera subscription or indeed Waze with it's free and crowdsourced information?

Your obfuscation reads like Fisting Road Angel.

Probably says more about me.

Shoulder massage, glass of wine and get your boyfriend to run you a bath. Should help.

roflI saw that too.

I'm surprised people are still buying These. £250 plus delivery plus subscription when the PocketGPSWorld cameralert app and Waze combined do pretty much the same thing for £20 a year.

They’ve had my Gem in for repair for 3 weeks. No communication. I ring daily, hold for 30 minutes and the call drops. I love my Gem and miss it muchly. I’m beginning to hate Road Angel.

My Gem plus went in because of screen and battery issues, in the end the cost of repair was not worth doing by all accounts. Having had a Road Angel product for years and years I was very disappointed with how the unit failed.
They did offer me the latest unit at a discount but I feel my time with Road Angel products is at an end.

Hi Zedboy,

what is your serial number? I will organise for somebody to be in touch as soon as possible.

So has anyone taken the plunge and bought a new Pure? I think Autocar reviewed it and rated it highly. I've been using Waze and other phone based systems and am undecided about my continued use. I suppose it's habit having used RA products for over 15 years but I miss the unit.

I placed an order for the Pure in February because the screen on my Gem went too. Was promised delivery in March. Have emailed them to ask where it is, no reply.
My experience of speaking to them about options about transferring my Gem subscription over should have given me some warning signs all is not as smooth as they would have you believe - long phone waits etc.
Has anyone received theirs yet?

(To answer why these over phone etc. my Gem is/was hardwired in so it is just sit in and drive, no faffing with phone charging cables and massive docks on the windscreen. Obviously personal choice of money vs convenience.)

Crazy, I had an original Road angel, then successive tom toms, I soon got fed up of being fleeced every quarter for 'map updates' and 'live alerts'

Why anyone buys these nowadays baffles me.

It baffles people like Tom Tom too as they make apps for smartphones.

Save your money.

Use google Maps (free updates & live traffic etc)

Use tomtom speed cameras app (yes Tomtom) - you put it in 'overlay' mode and it sits on top of Google Maps, job sorted, completely free, no ads, and as much protection as you'd get from road Angel/Tomtom/Garmin etc.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com....

complete no brainer, all the features of a sat nav unit on your phone, you can even use HERE maps or something if you don't want to use precious 3G data.

It's really not a hardship to have a mount and a charger, and it's a one off cost.

Ok it's in night mode, but you see the idea.

you could, but Waze is a bit cartoony and adverty, Google maps seems more 'grown up' but the choice is there to take.

True they could "adult it up" a bit!
