Calling all Tech heads ~ GARMIN Suzuki issues

Hello all and help.

I have a Suzuki swift sport with a garmin radio / nav it's the standard unit they sold with loads of stuff looks like this

So I have a couple of things :

What unit is this ? What's it's name or product code ?

I usually have a device and never update it if you will, I've ben told you update this by plugging in a SD card downloading updates then sticking in the unit, is this just map updates or system as well ? Do I need to do this ?

The main issue I'm having is I can't see or send text messages, I have a i phone , I've also connected a Samsung and tried it with that. Same issue anyone know how to sort ?

I am truly not tech savvy so if you can help reply assuming I'm very thick.

I have indeed. It's just turned 11000 miles and is going well. The gearbox is loosening up a bit and much nicer to use now.

I need to sort a few paint chips and replace the wipers, but otherwise it's all good.
