I'm looking for a simple, self powered GPS tracker that can be tucked away in my classic car. I'd be happy to replace the battery every few months if necessary. Key features would be...

Minimal ongoing monitoring costs (if necessary)
Movement alert setting
Dial up checking of current location with integrated smartphone/computer mapping

I've seen some discussion on here, but nothing that really stands out in terms of recommendations.

Any suggestions please?

Dave.

I have a TK102-Nano

I only use it in a minimalist way as it is powered by the aux power socket which turns off when the ignition is switched off so the TK102-Nano goes into sleep mode until the ignition is switched on again. It takes a few minutes to wake up so I miss the start of a journey. The end of a journey is always tracked without fail.

I have a Lyca mobile SIM and £25.00 credit has lasted almost 2 years now. I don't buy a bundle as that would cost say £15.00 for 1 month and would run my credit down quickly. The TK102-Nano only uses micro amounts of data so mobile credit lasts for ages. Whiat this does mean is that I don't use SMS/Txt alerts as they cost me 10p per txt.

The TK102-Nano is a bit awkward to setup and uses SMS/txt's so can cost a couple of £ initially.

The variable bit which I'm not too sure about is the back end. I am using Rewire Security and I subscribe to them and a 1 year subscription costs £10.00. For this I can use their web based map to see my routes and even see top speeds redface. It worked OK across Europe too. I expect there are other services available.

The TK102-Nano seems to be available from a number of suppliers and there may be clones and maybe there are other back end services to choose from.

I have recently fitted a Rewire Security 303 - Fleet tracker security.
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/231136139882?_trksid=p20...

I paid £60 from eBay which comes with your GPSLive account (online tracker app available through internet browser or mobile phone app) and your lycamobile sim account with £5 free credit.

The tracker it's self is ready to go out the box with the sim already installed and £5 free credit, all you have to do is hard wire it in somewhere. The internal battery lasts 2-3 days without any external power been given to it.
I've had the tracker around 2 months now and still not needed to top up and have around £2.50 of credit left however most of the credit usage was me messing about with commands and the sim having to text my phone with a response (19p per sms message it sends, and it charges around 0.001p for around 2-3hours of driving - i've set mine to update it's location every 30 seconds, until I stop then it goes into a minimal sleep state).

Lycamobile say you need to top up every three months to keep the sim active (if the sim doesn't send a text/make a phone call in this time), so if you look at it that way and just use it for data it's £20 a year to keep the sim active, and then after the first year of GPSLive it's a £10 a year subscription or £30 for the lifetime of the product.

Anymore questions give us a shout!

Got 3 TK102 nanos from rewire security, once setup they work very well. I have found giffgaff much cheaper to run than lycamobile. Easy to hard wire as well.

I can’t comment on the analog because I got the fitter of my autowatch Ghost to do it at the same time.

The tracker has been great, I use the Rewire security app and have set a geofence around my house so I get instant notifications if it leaves this area between certain times in the night.

Would definitely recommend it as a cheapish tracker.
