Make sure the radio and ignition is switched off. Disconnect the car battery for 4 minutes. Connect the battery again and turn on ignition and then turn on the radio. If that doesn't work bin it and get a second hand replacement.

Disconnecting the battery only works if the radio is already switched off. If you need a code to enter you would get 4 dashes on the display.

IIRC 1 hour code needs a hard reset, battery off for an hour, if that doesn't work just get another unit, if it's a Mk7 there is no code AFAIK, is it the one with a seperate display ?

I had this in my 2011 fiesta, eventually it just came back to life, not particularly helpful I know, but it didn't do it again - hope you get it resolved

I had same problem on my radio and followed different leads to try solve the problem. Would work and a weak or so stop again. Decided to check battery terminal due to its service some time back and the terminals were sprayed with red and blue anti corrosion I think. When stripped down I found that the positive battery terminal had corrosion inside the connector ring and that the paint was covering it. Cleaned in some bicarb and we're back on track again.

Dodgy connector as above - perhaps the one to sense ignition live? You might be able to find a wiring diagram for it.
