Hi there , very good write up im intrested in the oil supply mods and as we well know this is were the problems stem from. We was on the dyno Teusday mapping it with the Omex on and althou it made 305 at the wheels @7200 rpm and near on 300 ft with a fantastic dyno curve to boot it would not take full throttle at low rpm and also nb 3 exhaust was glowing so something was amiss somewere.
So i flow checked the injectors and did a cold compression check and thats when i found it had only 60 psi on number 3 hence a 5 cylinder tuscan. I did get around 200 - 240 on all the other cylinders so thats were the power has gone. Now ive got to sit down a weigh it up repair this lot or go straight to the LS7 conversion witch was going to happen next year anyway.

You`ve identified the cylinder, what i suggest you do is take out the spark plugs, the cylinder that is low get some thick oil like 20/50 squirt it in the cylinder, fit a compression tester turn the engine over and check the compression, if it comes up its the rings, if not its the valves.

Id say its the seats as these are bronze i think , it does not smoke but uses oil 10/50 Silco , i can get the head overhauled for 400-500 notes this inc the propper guides and 3 angles on the seats.
The cams are slightly worn as well as are the followers so really need to price it up and see if its better to go the whole hog now with the LS 7.

If you are sure its guides then i would say that you will need new guides valves and stem seals, do not reface the valves as they will recess into the head to far and your shim clearances will be to small also dont reline the guides as the lining will wear through due to the side loading on the valve stem especialy the exhaust. This is just my opinion.

I have just had a recon'd head, new followers, cams, rings, re-bore and decked block plus new oil pump gears and other smaller things done and had change out of £3.5k (excluding the price of the head).

Bloody happy with the resaults sounds and goes like a new car, lets just say the "sewing machine" noise is not normal

Its true...the only thing you can hear now are the injectors ;-) (when the roof is on)

As you might know, I DIY'd mine and did similar set of work expect no rings (I re-honed the bores as they were glazed a bit). I replaced oil pump rotors, simplex chains, seals etc. Total price *with* the head refurb (cams, followers, new oil feed, new shims, new valves and guides, skimmed and seats recut)...£2.2K all in. Not bad.

Most of the engine parts came from RG. The oil feed is a new pipe off the pressure sender block and threads into the head in-line with the exhaust follower shaft at the back of the head. Oil pipe kit came from RG (its actually well priced), head mod for oil feed done by dpd3047 as part of the head refurb; all parts for that supplied as part of the job of course. I made up some new oil pipes too replacing the shabby ones that came off (various Banjo fittings using Goodridge 600-3 series steel braided hydraulic pipe from Merlin motorsports)
