As per title, I am looking to purchase a micrometer for measuring valve shims.
Been having a look around on EBay and found this.
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/6-150mm-Digital-LCD-Caliper-...
Would above be accurate and up to the job?
Any other recommendations would be appreciated.

Whilst it would do the job, strictly speaking what you`re looking at there is a digital vernier caliper. Although a versatile measuring tool with the ability to take internal and external measurements what you could really do with is a digital micrometer, looks a little like a small G clamp, far more the job for your application.
I would post a picture but sadly my Mac`s not speaking with Pistonheads !!

It'll do the job OK, it's what I use to shim my Jaguar engines with. The only problem is that if you have to order any shims the measurements on the vernier caliper may not correspond to what you buy so it's often best to physically measure the shims you buy with your caliper. This depends of course on how accurate you want to be.

thats a vernier, you would be better off with a micrometer, also check that the shims are made as an imperial size or metric , if imperial, as with the ajp engine, get an imperial micrometer, saves a lot of hassle converting one to the other.
