I believe 03 onwards. Mine seems ok at the moment touch wood.
If only there were such a date: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...Yes I suppose if they're built to go on a track then you'd expect them to be up to the job. Mines just for road use so no quite as hammered, but, there is always the old rattle and noise that gets you wondering ; if it goes it goes. Get a TVR power upgrade :-) mmm . I've certainly found it an extremely sporty and drivable engine so far and would highly recommend it.

I suppose it could look a bit hit and miss. I'm a new sp6 owner (5 months in)and read all the forums and looked for a steer the way you are now. I came to the following conclusion (not neccasarily right but one I was happy to proceed with).
Buy as low mileage example as possible (or since rebuild) to minimise risk of previous owners(s) behaviour and potential wear.
Buy as late a model as possible as most opinion seems to suggest post 04ish engines had a better reputation.
Buy from a reputable dealer(the forums give the positive direction)with a good warranty.
Ensure history is totally complete and get as much info on the life to date of the car you're buying.
Be prepared to keep a what if fund available just in case.
Get the car inspected by an independent specialist. I chose not to since the previous criteria had been met and I trusted the reputation of the dealer I bought from to have already done this. If I bought another I would get it inspected only in as much as I now know the right specialist to do so.
Since purchase the car has completed 3000 miles without any engine issues; more importantly I'm totally bought into the Sp6 engine and how it performs. If it goes pop in my ownership, which I don't expect it to anytime soon, then there is a great recent thread about a 4.3 conversion giving a good account of itself.
My final reasoning was any rebuild cost would likely to be less than the depreciation suffered on a more modern car offering similar performance/ experience over the ownership period.
The above is just the thought process and experience I've had as a total beginner and not one of an expert, nor do I claim to know better than anyone else- quite the opposite. So far however it's proved to be one of my better calls..

Very good point. I bought my Mk2 aover 12 months ago and was recently offered 3k more than I paid.As far as buying advise, dont do what I did.
I had to have a rebuild on my Mk1 straight away at Str8Six.
Loved my Mk1 and the rebuilt engine was great but then I went and broke the car in a big way.
The Mk2 is still going strong at 38k miles, in Germany with it at the moment and heading to Spain in it later in June.
