Im sure this has been asked and answered many times before, however. I have just had a new engine in my Tuscan S after the usual head issues. The CATs now glow after a few minutes of use. Is there an easy way to knock the cats out? I heard theyre a real pig. Also as the car is currently sat 200 miles from my house is it a bad idea to drive it back with the glowing cats? (since TVR's have a habit of catching fire) Any help would be greatly appreciated as Im about to lose my patience and just drive it home!
Are you saying they glow after use on track or usual driving with a number of fast blatts? If the latter I would suggest something is wrong. Personnally I would not be subjecting a new engine to those conditions. Pull the cats out and check them. You should be able to see light right through them, if you cannot they are likely blocked, possibly a collapsing cat strata. Or it could be the engine is not set up properly and too much unburned fuel is entering the headers.
I would not decat an S engine, or for that matter a red rose spec engine. The cams are timed for overlap which allows some of the fuel charge into the headers, the cats take care of this for the mot emmissions test, no cats = most usually no MOT cert. Better to do as the other chap mentioned and install bypass pipes. Unless you know someone at the MOT station

I would check the Lambda readings to check all is OK on a LAP top, had the same in mine and found a CAT had given up on the outside of the shell. Bugger to knock out. Mine was caused by Lambda being loose and allowing extra air in causing wrong mixture.
Should not being glowing red under normal driving.
