Hi all i have just been quoted £1100 for a full service including valve clearances. Is this right? I want to make sure im not paying over the odds before i book it in.

Also my car uses a bit of oil and puffs a bit out on start up, could this meen rebuild time coming up? Its done 21k with no rebuild as of yet.

Thanks in advance

Where about and who were they if you dont mind me asking?

Was that with the valves checked also?

I dont quite understand why the serving is so expensive, my last car (e46 M3) also a high power straight 6 which also required the valve clearences checking etc and that cost a hell of alot less to have serviced.

I dont mind spending the money as it has to be done i just dont want to be led up the garden path!

Regards
Sam

Strange that I also used to have an e46 M3!!

Yes that included the valve check/adjust etc and am in the east midlands.

Your £1100 sounds expensive. I am sure someone else near you will comment and add some suggestions.

Cheers. Lee.

You need to be speaking to APM Automotive(01420 473931)located near Liphook.

When this question usually comes up you will find APM gets recommended a lot due to their standard of workmanship, value for money & not trying to rip people off rolleyes

That is over the top really,

Depends on whether you will travel a bit, Str8 six (oxfordshire) is around the £750 and is one if the best around. Abit further north there is TVR power at around £600. Go further North and Torque RVT around £450 and Green Star racing at around £400 with an MOT.

All of the above have a good reputation, have been used by lots of people on here, and will get repeat custom no doubt.

The Garage - Compton Hampshire is my personal recommendation.

What David and Darren don't know about these cars isnt worth knowing.

Who quoted you £1100???

Hi all,

Thanks for all the advice i have since found out that a rebuild was advised at the last service. Does that sound right? Why has it done nearly 4000 miles since and runs perfectly fine once warm?

I think if this is the case i will just carry out an oil change etc next month and enjoy it till summers over then get it rebuilt as it will only come out from march-october. I know its prob been asked a million times but how much will i be looking at for a rebuild? Im not interested in making it more powerfull im quite happy enough with my standard redrose!

I just want to find an honest garage i can trust. One of my closest friends owns his own garage but he does'nt want to touch the tvr frown

Thanks again
Sam

Best get on the phone and start finding out all your options re a rebuild, TVR power are an option have a look at there website as prices are on there, jason at st8six comes highly recommended and what about an LS V8 engine from topcats or steve heath (shpub). You have a few good reliable options but none of them are cheap budget £6k + for a full rebuild.

Doubt whether even Power could do a 12K including tappets for £600.

Powers prices are ex-VAT (its on the web site) so comes in similar to St8six at £750 all in. Both are good, never used Power but use St8six for my servicing & repairs.

Got mine booked in with Dave for a 12k service in a week's time.

He is totally reliable and a fountain of knowledge - you won't regret going there!
