Hi,

Can someone tell me if it is possible to replace the cylinder head gasket while the engine is still in the car?

By the way the engine is in a T350c.

Thanks

Ian

Have been told the same.

I think its possible to remove the head in situe but it makes it harder to do and takes longer than just taking it out.

my mates just had his done at TrackVRoad on a Mk1 Tuscan. It was definately an engine out job. Circa £3K if I remember correctly.

You can remove the head of a Tuscan with the engine in situ without too much trouble.

Getting the cam timing correct is a bit hit and miss though.

Best get it out and save time, and check everything else at same time IMO.

Thanks for the replies.

The engine is in the process of being removed and it does look like in the end it will be easier to do the head, at least for the first time, with the engine out of the car. Also it might not just be the head gasket that has gone!

Just the prop, gearbox and engine mounts and the electrics to disconnet and that should be it.

One question do I need to remove the exhaust manifolds before I drop the engine out the bottom?

No leave them on and tilt the engine over to the O/S. Take them off when out of the car, alot quicker and easier. Have fun!

Took the rear manifold off while the engine was in the car and it took well over an hour to do. I'm going, as you suggest leave the front one on until the engine is out of the car.

Is there anything else I should watch out for?
