Hot start issue
Discussion
Hi all, Im fairly new here but have been reading for a while. I have a 2003 Tuscan S and the robber who sold it to me neglected to mention the valves had massively receded and it needed a new head. Anyway since the motor was out getting a brand new head I had the bottom end freshened up aswell and the engine is basically new now. However When its warm it wont turn over 'Almsot like battery is flat' Anyone had this before? Could it just be the heat soak getting at the starter and it simply needs replacing? Starts and turns over fine when cold. Any info would be great hanx
regards
regards

Yes had this on an earlier S6 engine when newly built - on mine the pistons/skirts were expanding too much when hot and binding in bore, too little clearance, but it did ease a fair bit after 500miles so would turn over just enough to re-start. Who did your rebuild?regards
Cheers for the info, The pistons and bores have not changed but have had a new head, valves, pumps, chains etc etc had the block skimmed and the head gas flowed while off and new big ends etc. When it runs its a smooth as anything and pulls like hell just this warm start issue the only fault. Engine was built by JS Motorsport who have done a few race engines for me in the past. Im sure its just a dodgy starter but thought I'd just check incase its something more 'TVR' related ; )
This happened to mine, and it was a earthing problem, keep one jump lead in the boot and the next time it happens earth the engine with the jump lead, seriously this is not a windup, A RAC guy told me to do this to mine and it fired up straight away, i then cleaned up the main earth connections and fitted another earth strap for good measure, and Roberts your Mothers brother

That's interesting. Dodgy elec connections often at root of our little 'issues'. Fibreglass cars for you, but at least bodies last forever

i had this problem after a rebuild.
I changed the battery as it decided to die and it has solved the problem.
I put it down to an aging battery that was unused for about 6-8 weeks whilst the engine was being rebuilt.
Any way new battery and all is well
Jon
Connect a set of jump leads from the earth side of the battery directly on to the engine, if starter is still lazy replaceI changed the battery as it decided to die and it has solved the problem.
