Ok, bear with me. I'm not at all technically minded when it comes to engines. rolleyes

I've just had my Tuscan in for a service and been given a report on the engine. frown

I could be wrong but I'm presuming this would only mean a top end rebuild and not a full:

Inlet side 5 to 6 THOU:
ONE A: Light marks on cam lobes

Exhaust Side 11 to 12 THOU:
ONE A: Marks on outside edge of cam and follower
FOURB: Marks on back edge of cam and follower
FIVEA & FIVEB: Light marks on follower

Who carried out the service? would really expect any half decent service centre to tell you what it means and what work is required or may be needed in the future based on the report.

To be fair although issues were spotted during service it was more advisory than impending doom. It's only after I left I started to wonder about the what if's. I've got a trip to Germany planned for end of May and don't want to be left at the side of the road. If it's better to act now and replace the worn components I would rather do that than destroy the engine further down the line.

Understand it is only an advisory but an advisory should have just that, advice, ie in our opinion not a problem for x miles or should be rectified soon. Then you would not be left wondering what to do.
As someone who isnt very mechanically minded what do the figures mean and what would they be if they were not an advisory.

Yip. That's why I'm asking the nice chaps at TVR Power to have a look at it.

My exhaust 1 A/B have been like this for well over a year and 12,000+ miles (depending when it started).

It was noted by Power back in Feb '09 during the 12K service, so it was before then. I just ask about how it is at each service and it's no worse during this year's 12K.

In fact it was only this topic that reminded me as I tend to ignore the fact it's there otherwise - what's the point in worrying? It'll need doing when it needs doing.

Edited to say: Still worth getting it checked out for piece of mind.

Yeah I've spoken to Dom and it's been explained as pretty normal. I'm going to get a cranking pressure test done anyway for peace of mind.

Glad that Dom has sorted you out and that there is no problem and no rectification works required,he has always looked after me well. From your discussions what do the numbers mean, is it just something to keep an eye on or does it suggest something more major is on its way.
Sorry for what may seem a silly question but have never got to grips with the intricacies of the speed six have always done the driver checks and left the servicing and maintenance to those who know what they are doing ie Power.
