Is it normal to have 99psi at start up when its cold
Discussion
Hello,
I started the engine up on my mk1 tuscan 4.0 2003/4 today and noticed the oil pressure was reading 99psi. I let it run for a few minutes then turned it off. I turned the ignition on again and could see the pressure falling back down to 0psi. I then started her up again and the pressure went back up to 99psi and then 98psi a minute later. I turned her off and thought I'd check out the normal pressures being recorded by fellow PHers before I run her anymore.
I'm pretty sure this is normal with thick cold oil,and that pressure falls as the engine warms up, but 99psi felt a little high to me.
Your comments/experiences are welcome.
Cheers,
Martin

Sounds knackered to me (the sensor that is) I get 65-70psi when cold & 20psi hot @1000rpm. at cruise speed on motorway 45-55psi

I've seen the part on clever trevor's site. Could this be the issue?? Is the oil pressure sensor not mounted on the engine?

I've found it. Its under the air filter/intake manifold. It only has one wire. the replacement one on TVR Power's web site has 2 wires. I was wondering if I create a jup lad from the sensor to the block to eath it, if that will solve the reading issue. I'll have a go tonight and report back!
Does anyone know the source of the problem? Corrosion/water ingress??

Hi this link is very helpful.

I put a new sender on over the weekend and started it up only to find fault codes and warning codes indicating there was no pressure. I measured the resistance across the terminals with the wires disconnected and engine off it was 9 ohms. With the engine cold at about 2000 rpm the reading went to 104 ohms.
Off the car the old unit showed 1600 ohms so I put it back on and the pressure reading was ok.
So it looks like there is a problem with the new sender. It was in a box with TVR No E6559 and had a No on the body 96367. Has anyone had similiar problems?

Have you taken measurements of a sensor working properly? If so what was the resistance at cold and hot?
